Cortland Wins 2019 NWGC Championship

VOORHEESVILLE, NY – Following a strong opening round on Saturday, the SUNY Cortland women’s golf team cruised to victory at the Northeast Women’s Golf Championship, held at Colonie Country Club. The Red Dragons bested the field by 77 strokes with a two-day score of 687.
The Red Dragons’ Danielle Bambola took home the individual medalist title with a two-day total of 153 to also earn NWGC Player of the Year. Rookie of the Year went to Alivia Waldrom from Cortland as she turned in a 36-hole total of 178.
Cortland started the championship with a score of 347 on day one. The Red Dragons backed that up with a 340 on Sunday.
The race for the top three spots was much tighter. Utica cut 14 strokes off its opening 18 holes to come in second at 764 (389-375). Suffolk just squeezed passed Johnson & Wales as the Rams edged the Wildcats by one stroke (771-772).
The top five golfers earned First-Team All-NWGC while the next five and ties were award Second-Team All-NWGC.
